What’s not to love about the film, “Amelie”?  This whimsical film is the personification of goodness, hope and optimism.  As we ring in 2011, I hope your upcoming year is just as “Amelie” is: bright, funny, inspiring and accompanied by a beautiful musical score (I mean, it doesn’t get better than Yann Tiersen’s Amelie score, that much is for certain).

In 2011, remember that as writers, it is our job to give the reader a three dimensional experience.  That means conveying sound, taste, and touch as well as emotion, plots, and character arcs.  The music score is not just reserved for films: take a cue from Amelie and use music to give your reader a more complete experience.

Regular, daily posts resume January 3rd!  If there is a topic you would like to see covered in 2011, please let me know, either through a comment or via e-mail at
