Andy Warhol - I like Boring Things

Boreism

noun: behavior of a boring person; the condition of being a bore.

Andy Warhol once said, “I like boring things,” which makes sense, considering one of the most iconic images of his career was the Campbell soup can. However, one thing Warhol did not like was people who exhibited boreism (have you surveyed his portrait subject matter? Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Elizabeth Taylor… he definitely wasn’t selling prints of John Doe on the street corner). What makes a person boring? It isn’t a matter of lacking celebrity. Boreism is best defined as the quality that defines someone who merely passes through life, without taking a moment to breathe, feel, taste, touch, indulge, dedicate, sweat, travel, read, stretch, love, learn, freeze, tingle, create, inspire, shock, awe, embrace, excite, challenge, grieve, honor, forgive.

While boring things may be forgivable, boring people are not. Stand up to boreism. Save the Word, and in the process, perhaps save yourself. Do something today. Tell me about it. Break the boreism cycle.
